Yogurt Oasis Is Just Average

After the extraordinary dinner Haley and I had just moments earlier at Fleming’s on Friday, we were on our way out until I started mentioning dessert. We were initially going to get dessert with our dinner but we were too full. Despite how badly we wanted that Chocolate Lava Cake, I literally could not eat a dessert that large and wanted something smaller and a bit lighter.

Yogurt OasisI started talking about Pinkberry and we started craving it really bad. Unfortunately it isn’t open yet in Nashville. I recalled reading an article on the Internet about existing frozen yogurt shops and one of the more popular ones is called Yogurt Oasis. While talking about it, we suddenly found it right next to us as we were driving down West End Avenue; directly across from some Vanderbilt residence halls. It must have been fate!

Yogurt OasisTruth be told it wasn’t fate. Yogurt Oasis is simple shop that serves various flavors of frozen yogurt that is made by (I think) Only 8 Frozen Yogurt. The reason I say that is because upon entering, we were given a small card with that website on it as well as nutritional information. We weren’t sure what to get and when we asked about their flavors, we were given small cups to taste test anything we wanted. Despite their flavors of chocolate, peanut butter, vanilla, and mango (I forgot the other 2), I expected Pinkberry-like tartness but I instead got the same mundane frozen yogurt that I’ve been used to since my birth.

Yogurt OasisDon’t get me wrong, it’s not nasty by any means but it’s not special enough to make me want to drive across Nashville to get it. The yogurt was light with a slight sweetness and an even slighter accent of their respective flavor labels. Priced by weight, you could choose from their various toppings of fruits, cereals, nuts, cookies, and bottled sauces. For two decently topped frozen yogurt cups, the price came out a little over $7. For that price I would have rather eaten real ice cream and I didn’t even finish my serving. What’s worse is that I forgot to take pictures of the product after leaving the store.

I guess the two things that Yogurt Oasis has going for it is that their frozen yogurt is healthy and it’s real popular amongst the Vanderbilt folk. The Only 8 Frozen Yogurt website advertises it as the “healthiest frozen yogurt in America” with 8 bullet points on why they make that claim. Unfortunately for me, those health benefits don’t warrant another visit.
