Antonio’s Little Italy Provides Quality Lunch Specials At Bargain Pricing

For the past couple weeks, I’ve driven by Antonio’s Little Italy numerous times during my lunch break but have never made an extensive effort to try it out. As you drive by, you can see a huge yellow banner in the window advertising lunch specials for $5.99. Considering most fast food lunches fall in this price range, I was a bit intrigued on what I would get from a non-fast food Italian restaurant. So when my friend Jason asked me if I was going to lunch on Friday, I mentioned Antonio’s and it was unanimous that we should try it.

Antonio's Little ItalyAntonio's Little ItalyLocated in a corner suite of the Kroger Shopping Center on Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro, Antonio’s is in a very large, yet simple suite with dozens of booths and tables. There are hardly any decorations aside from citrus painted walls, 2 flat screen TVs on each end of the building and the statue of an Italian chef.

We were greeted by a lady at the cashier counter and she directed us to some booths by a window with 2 paper menus already in hand. The tri-folded brochure menu was quite extensive with appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees and even deserts. The most expensive item on the menu was $9.99 with a majority of entrees falling between $6 – $8.

Since we were there only for the $5.99 lunch special, that’s the only area we concentrated on. This special is available Monday through Saturday from 10:30 AM to 3 PM and includes any of the following:

  1. Any Sandwich (Meatball, Chicken/Pork/Eggplant Parmesan, Fried Chicken Filet) & Salad (Antonio’s House Salad, Caesar) or Penne Pasta
  2. Spaghetti with Meatballs
  3. Spaghetti with Meat Sauce
  4. Penne Pasta with Meatballs

Chicken Parmesan Sandwich, Antonio's Salad, BreadI got the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich with Antonio’s Salad. I requested my sandwich bun be placed on the side. The meal took about 10 minutes to get to the table and arrived on a single dinner plate.

The Chicken Parmesan was lightly breaded and fried to a deep brown with a nice coating of marinara sauce and a sprinkling of Parmesan and Asiago cheeses. The breading on the chicken was a bit salty, but still delicious. Since it was supposed to be on a sandwich, it came already sliced in 4 chunky strips. The bread was warm, soft, and spongy.

Chicken Parmesan Sandwich, Antonio's Salad, BreadThe Antonio’s Salad consisted of Romaine lettuce, iceberg lettuce, Asiago cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions in a house vinaigrette. Surprisingly, the salad was the best item on the plate with the house vinaigrette providing a nice simple, mild vinegary coating on all the vegetables.

While I would have liked a bit more food, I recognize that what I purchased was a lunch special. It did just enough to fill you up without leaving you hungry. Not to mention the food was dinner-quality compared to what you would get at fast food places. The final tab ended up being $6.58 including tax… not too bad! Antonio’s Little Italy just might be one of the best lunch specials in Murfreesboro!
